How to prevent chafing (during sex and after)

Chafing is friction + moisture + time. Prevention is boring: reduce friction, reduce moisture, stop early.

  • Friction
  • Skin
  • Aftercare
  • Comfort

What chafing actually is

Chafing is skin getting rubbed while warm and damp. Once the barrier is irritated, everything feels worse: movement, wiping, even water.

During: reduce friction before it starts

  • Use enough lube (not “a little”)
  • Slow down when heat builds
  • Avoid dry, repetitive motion
  • Switch positions before discomfort becomes pain
If it starts to feel “hot” or “raw,” that’s the moment to pause — not the moment to push through.

After: keep the barrier calm

  • Rinse or gently wash externally
  • Pat dry (no scrubbing)
  • Breathable underwear or loose clothing
  • Simple external moisturizer if skin feels tight

When to stop DIY-ing

If you have open sores, spreading redness, swelling, fever, or worsening pain, get evaluated.

Not medical advice. If symptoms persist or worsen, get evaluated.
